I have been looking forward to Kaitlin & Christian's wedding for almost a year since they booked me. Not only was I excited to be doing a semi-destination wedding to Catalina Island, but I immediately clicked with both of them and knew their wedding day would be so much fun. They are college sweethearts who met at Chico State through their sorority and fraternity and have been inseparable since.
Santa Catalina Island is a channel island twenty-two miles off the coast of California. Because of its perfect location and natural harbor, the island provides a breathtaking getaway location. Rocky cliffs covered in green jut out into the blue ocean, and rows of boats ranging from small skiffs to luxurious yachts sway gently on the water. I can’t imagine a more romantic scene for a wedding.
Their wedding took place at Overlook Hall in Avalon on the south side of the island. The historic building sits high on a hill overlooking the beauty of the island. The white building and red brick made some stunning backdrops for Kaitlin and Christian to take some unforgettable photos on their big day. A shot I especially love is of them standing under one of the brick archways as sunlight streams through, lighting up Kaitlin's flowing dress and veil. These two looked so lovely together—and so in love.
After a heartwarming ceremony, they were ready to celebrate with their family and friends. This couple is very loved, so I wasn’t surprised that so many people traveled out to be with them. To capture the whole group, everyone lined up down the zigzagging stairway from the hall—such a fun picture!
Their reception was nearby at The M Restaurant. We took portraits with the beautiful backdrops that Catalina naturally provides, including the iconic casino. Their wedding day was even more beautiful than I could imagine…and I already knew it would be pretty amazing! Congratulations, Kaitlin and Christian! I wish you two the very best, and I had a wonderful time capturing these special memories for you.
