Raw and rugged meets bohemian elegance. For this naturally themed styled shoot, the happy couples gathered under the high desert sky in Joshua Tree, California. The ceremony and reception both took place at the Tumbleweed Sanctuary, Garden, and Labyrinth—one of the most unique and stunning venues I’ve ever seen. To accentuate the southwest theme, they shared warm embraces under wooden geometric arches with ornate sunset-red rugs spread beneath their feet. I fell in love with the bride’s thick-lace, bohemian wedding dress complemented with a delicate floral head wreath and wine-colored lipstick. She looked like a desert angel, especially when she stood beside her handsome hubby-to-be.
An intricate macramé and greenery backdrop was used to display the gorgeous naked wedding cake that sat atop an antique Singer sewing machine. The colorful citrus fruits used to decorate the sides of the cake added a fresh, natural look, coordinating with the rest of the theme. The baker added a little extra shimmer with a few brushes of gold along the sides.
Instead of the trendy wooden rings I’ve seen used to display messages or serve dishes, agate slices were used to play more into the southwest theme. The stone paired especially well with all of the succulents and pebbles to create simply stunning décor—nothing too over the top. The stone slices also served as eye-catching table markers.
Delicious southwest wraps filled with vibrant greens and veggies served alonside pretty side salads added extra color to the place settings (until we couldn’t help but eat them—they were too pretty not to eat!) The antique tableware and hammered copper added unique, colorful touches as well.
I love the little seating arrangement with velvet-covered chairs and sofa. I wanted to take a seat and gaze off into the setting sun behind those mesmerizing rolling hills. If I could be anywhere in the world, this was it. Who wouldn’t want to get married beneath a big, open sky?
